226.Wandering into Farming with Tony DiMaggio, Sacred Blossom Farm

Plant(ed) Community

Years from now, decades even, people will look back on this time we're traveling through and say, "That's when humanity found themselves again."

In our little city, businesses are beginning to re-open.  People are venturing out, even as the grocery stores that have been open this whole while have just begun demanding patrons wear masks. We don't know how to act around one another now. Do you give your bestie a hug? How far apart is six feet, really? Did that couple with the masks on just judge us for not wearing masks in our front yard as they passed? It's almost as disconcerting as sheltering-in-place was two months ago.

I don't know if a second wave is coming, or what it might look like if it did. I don't know how long we'll be wearing masks and feeling socially uncomfortable. I don't know how we're going to rearrange our thinking around money to accomodate our new norms and the heart-breaking needs of so, so many who lost everything to the Pandemic. No one does.

What we do know is that Plant Medicines work for a heck of a lot. They may not cure, but they sure do Heal. I've been impressed by the Herbal Community over the past two months. We've all heeded the call of the Plants. I've seen so many people learning to work with plants for the first time, countless others finding ways to work with clients, neighbors, communities despite social distancing and Pandemic requirements. I've seen most of them offering their knowledge, skills, and even medicines for free or steeply discounted rates. You know what that's reminded me of?
A Plant Community.
We have all heard the wisdom of the Plan World, and we've responded. Those seeking technological solutions that are outside of the box are like the mints, snaking their way across any barrier. The folks offering services and goods for free or nearly so are like the chickweeds, nettles, and red clovers, giving and yet never diminishing. Teachers who have opened their programs to the worldwide community for free or super-low-cost are like the Birch, Oak, and Elder, inviting everyone to come, take shelter in their boughs and learn how it is to live among The Plants. And the rest of us, we who have wandered into this strange new world, we're like the seeds dropped by Bird, Bear, and Deer, germnating and starting to sprout and take our places in this beautiful harmony.

It's kinda cool to see all of us working with the most Ancient Beings on this planet to Heal our species and create a bridge from the disease we were in to a new future, one that's filled with Health and Balance.

Maybe they'll be right. Maybe this really is the time when we'll find ourselves again.
Blessings,

Candace and Patrick

P.S. Did you read Wild Remedies yet? Nope, we're not affiliates this time, but we're reading it anyway and it's a pretty good read...not just for the lucky folk who live close enough to wild places to actually forage properly. Rosalee and Emily managed to write a work that speaks to city-folk like us as much as our country-dwelling friends.

A number of years ago I was contacted by a company in Australia to contribute recipes for their e-book on sustainable eating. The first recipe I shared with them was this simple recipe for gnudi dumplings made from ramp leaves, which, as far as ethical eating goes, are a pretty hot topic. I’ve been sharing...
